(Left to Right: Sandy Gallagher, Dick Gallagher, Leann Gouveia, and Judy Wathen-Farris) Fresno SOS was honored to be invited to speak at the December meeting for the Association of Fundraising Professionals. As we end the holiday season, Dick and Sandy Gallagher offered an inspirational touch by reminding us how a personal tragedy can become an opportunity to save lives. It was 1985 when founders Dick and Sandy Gallagher lost their 17 year old son, David to suicide. Following David's death, the Gallaghers shared their personal story through a local news program and quickly, the community began requesting presentations in classrooms and to community groups. It is amazing to see just how quickly time has flown and how much Fresno SOS has grown throughout the past twenty-five years. Although we aren't always able to put a number to the impact we make on our community, we do know this, says Dick Gallagher, "We save lives!" As I wish you all a Happy Holiday, I leave you with these words... "To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world." |
